Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy aims to help you gain a better understanding of the underlying dynamics that underpin emotional, psychological and interpersonal problems. These dynamics are often hidden and can subtly motivate patterns of behaviour that cause difficulties in your relationships with others, as well as in your own self-perception.
Talking therapy: first steps
Initially, I offer a first meeting which provides a space for you to speak of what brings you to consider psychotherapy, discuss your needs and for you to find out about how I work - you can book this with me directly. An initial consultation will normally be for 50 minutes. Thereafter, and bearing in mind any contraindications, an appropriate agreement to continue will be made.
Usually, I offer a further six sessions in which to establish a way of working together. Then, according to what we agree and as far as possible, we will meet on the same day and at the same time each week (or more frequently) for an agreed period of time.
During sessions we will talk through what is worrying you and together we will gently explore that which you find problematic and at odds with your emotional well-being - within everyday life as well as examining past experiences and future aspirations.
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy aims to relieve symptoms by seeking to understand the drivers behind them. It is when these deep-seated patterns are understood and seen in a different light that fresh perspective can develop, providing relief and the opportunity for transformation to occur.
I work from both a classical and contemporary theoretical base. Each person is different and I will tailor my approach accordingly.
I am happy to answer any questions when you get in touch.
My fee structure is £60.00 - £90.00
Wherever possible I will offer a reduced fee for daytime sessions, however, this will depend on available spaces.
Session length is usually 50 minutes. Missed sessions will be billed. Wherever possible, and with prior notice, sessions can be re-arranged within the same week depending on availability.
